Weather permitting, I try to do outdoor powerwalks every day to achieve 10K steps. My walks have taken me to some very interesting visuals that are unique to Chicago…. nowhere else. Some “gems” featured here are artwork, others are just…. whatever… LOL! I hope you enjoy the photos.

Douglas’ Tomb is located in the historic Bronzeville community.
IBEW Tribute to Officer Ella French
A very heartfelt tribute to slain Chicago Police Officer Ella French. I powerwalk past the IBEW building every week.
Fairy Houses
The creative and interesting display is located at the 31st Street Harbor along the walking trail.
Agora
Designed by Polish artist Magdalena Abakanowicz, whose work was notable for her large, headless human figures, arranged in crowds in open spaces, Agora is made up of 106 larger-than-life human shapes without heads and arms. The figures appear to be milling about in a crowd — some face each other, while others are turned away from the crowd. Agora derives its name from the Greek word for meeting place. The figures measure nine feet tall and weigh around 1,800 pounds. Each figure is made from a hollow, seamless piece of iron that has been allowed to rust, creating a reddish appearance and a bark-like texture.
Grand Re-Opening of Buckingham Fountain
This was an exciting day to attend the grand re-opening of Buckingham Fountain!
Illumination of the Old Cook County Hospital
I did not snap this photo. But, it was too beautiful to not post. I worked here for many years. It never looked like this when Cook County Hospital was a hospital. It is now Hyatt House or something to that name.
Areas Downtown May 2021
Photos taken at the Cultural Center and Daley Plaza.
The Kent House
After all these years, I just discovered this building is a designated Chicago landmark.
Old Mansion in Bronzeville
This is such a lovely, awesome property in Bronzeville. I thought it was a Chicago historic landmark as it has that plaque. But, I could not get close enough to read it. Online the address shows it as being sold. It has the brick mansion and a separate house, maybe a guest house, in the back Anyway it is an awesome and lovely property.
Even though Chicago has many “social problems”, this great city has many many beautiful gems. I hope you enjoyed the photos.
